Society of Historical Fencing is honored to present our Coaches:
In addition to coaching for Society of Historical Fencing, Mike Roth is the Head coach and operator of Heartland HEMA in Kansas City. He has been fencing for over fifteen years. Currently, he is ranked first in America (thirteenth in the world) in saber and second (seventh in the world) in rapier, and top 50 for all other categories among other historical fencers on HEMA ratings. He regularly competes in local, regional, and international tournaments, and travels to give seminars and lectures to other clubs and schools. This year he is privileged to be on the coordination committee for Combat Con, which is an international level tournament held in Las Vegas.
Mike Runs our Wednesday night one-handed weapon lesson and practice at GNV Bridge from 6:00PM to 8:30PM
At his childhood farm Glenn always had a stick in hand to battle weeds, trees and fence posts. Over the years the stick in hand has evolved into pvc pipe, foam, synthetics and finally to a steel sword. The passion he had during those times hadn’t diminished and when he learned of HEMA and he threw himself into it. Glenn has been training and sparring with the longsword for over three years and has been and placed in multiple tournaments. Glenn is happy to cross blades with anyone at anytime and firmly believes everyone would like to swing a sword, even if they just don’t know it yet.
Glenn runs our Saturday afternoon longsword lesson and practice at Gainesville Movement Studio from 1:30PM to 4:30PM
Kenneth's fencing journey began when he was 15 years old, when he started doing rapier with the Society of Creative Anachronism. Since then, he has fought in organizations using steel weapons, rattan, wood, nylon, foam and even plastic lightsabers. After a small break during the pandemic, he re-discovered his love of swordfighting when he started coming to Society of Historical Fencing practices in March 2023. He favors one handed weapons, predominantly Rapier and Saber - though he has been developing a significant interest in Highland Broadsword and singlestick!
Kenneth is currently preparing a curriculum for a future practice date. In the meantime, he serves as a back-up instructor when one of the other coaches is not available for their session.
Coach Jared Amor (Retired)
Note: Jared has retired from coaching HEMA, however we would like to continue to honor his past contributions to our club by keeping his information listed here, as he was one of our founding coaches!
Jared has practiced some form of martial art most of his life, however it was not until his discovery of HEMA in 2016 that he would finally commit to mastering one. Since then he has been on a mission to not only better his own practice of the art, but those around him in his community!
